Choose the right lockers

When selecting clothes lockers, consider the changing room size, maximum capacity, and equipment storage needs. For accommodating large items like bags, hockey sticks, or overalls, opt for full-height lockers.
When space is limited, consider using half lockers for essentials like a shoulder bag and a jacket. Another option for small spaces is z-lockers, which consist of two full-height cabinets stacked on top of each other.

It is important to assess specific features such as ventilation holes for moisture control, anchor hooks for hanging clothes, and rubber-damped doors for quiet closure. For shared usage, consider closures that can accomodate padlocks, while personal lockers may benefit from a cylinder lock with a key or a combination lock.

In multi-user changing rooms, it is essential to ensure adequate space for movement. Consider leaving sufficient clearance between lcoker rows and utilising free-standing benches and hook strips to prevent overcrowding near the changing benches. Fitness facilities and swimming pools often have large numbers of visitors,  the changing rooms need to be planned correctly for the high demand.

Adapt the lockers to the users
Maximize space utilisation by installing a mirror on the interior of the locker door to create personal space and reduce congestion at shared mirrors.

Optimise organisation and storage in lockers by using interior storage boxes, shoe and hat shelves. Create extra storage by installing hooks on the wall between locker bays.

A wall-mounted whiteboard is very useful when it's time to talk strategy. If wall space is limited, try a whiteboard on a stand with wheels that can be easily moved when needed.

Consider how the changing rooms can be tailored to meet the needs of both your visitors and your business. Are there wheelchair-accessible lockers available? What measures need to be taken to ensure that individuals with diverse abilities can utilize the changing room seamlessly? Is there a necessity for a specialized accessible and gender-neutral changing room, or can the issue be addressed through alternative means?

By creating well-designed spaces for changing work or workout attire, you can foster an environment where everyone feels welcome and secure.


Matting: For utility and comfort

Mats serve a dual purpose of utility and comfort, particularly in dressing rooms. The selection of matting depends on their intended use and location.
For locker room entrances directly connected to outside, a durable entrance mat with a scraping function is recommended to minimise dirt accumulation indoors..
Highly absorbent mats are required inside the entrance to effectively absorb moisture from shoes. On rainy days, the floor can become wet and sticky without proper absorption.

Thankfully, there is a wide range of products available to streamline this process, including laundry bags, mobile bag holders, and laundry changing cabinets with secure locks. Laundry trolleys and wheeled bag holders facilitate the effortless transportation of garments and towels to and from the laundry area.

Consider which lockers to choose for ease of cleaning - lockers that go to the floor or on a leg stand for effortless cleaning underneath. Strategically positioned bins and laundry sorting containers also facilitate easier cleaning and encourage a collaborative effort in maintaining hygiene and order in the changing room.

Plan for the unexpected

In the event of an accident, make sure your changing room is equipped with a first aid kit or a first aid panel on the wall for prompt assistance.
